Red Eléctrica Announces Results of Second Auction for the Active Demand Response Service (SRAD)


In a significant step towards optimizing the electricity supply, Red Eléctrica has announced the results of its second auction for the Active Demand Response Service (SRAD). This service, designed to ensure stability and efficiency in the electrical system, has shown growing interest from 19 participants, with outstanding results.


Power Reserves for 2024

The auction has secured a reserve of 609 MW, representing 33% of the estimated target for the electricity supply for the coming year. This strategic measure aims to safeguard the necessary electrical capacity to face the challenges and fluctuations in demand that may arise throughout 2024, adding up to a total of 5,745 hours per year.


Competitive Marginal Price

The marginal price resulting from the auction has been set at €40.82/MW/h. This value, crucial for the additional production of electricity, reflects the competitiveness and efficiency of the auction process in resource allocation.


Economic Incentives for Awarded Participants

The participants awarded in the auction will receive a remuneration of 234,511€, marking a significant increase of 23% compared to the benefits obtained in the previous auction held last year. This increase in economic incentives highlights the importance and value that Red Eléctrica places on active participation in the SRAD.


Total Cost of the Service and Future Perspectives

With an estimated total cost of 142€ million for the system, the auction represents a notable increase, surpassing by more than 50% the costs associated with the first auction held in 2022. This increase suggests a growing investment and commitment to active demand response, emphasizing its vital role in the stability of the electricity supply.The results of the second SRAD auction indicate continuous success and growth in participation, underscoring the strategic importance of active demand response in the efficient management of the electrical system. With secured reserves, competitive prices, and higher economic incentives, Red Eléctrica positions itself as a leader in the transition towards a more dynamic and adaptable electricity supply to meet future needs.
